“It’s thinking time, being on the bus or walking, getting that fresh air.”
Larry works in Kirkstall and chooses to embrace a mix of walking and getting the bus, despite having a car and a parking space. When he can, he walks to work but other times, he travels by bus to the City Centre and then walks the rest of the way along the canal.
I live off Chapeltown Road but work in Kirkstall, so it’s either 2 buses or drive. I have a car and a parking space, but when I can I like to walk in to work. I also sometimes mix bus travel half way into town, and then walk into work along the canal
It gives me breathing space and sparks creativity. I walk with my business partner and we discuss what we’re working on that day, and plan ahead.
“It’s nice, it sets me up for the day.”
That movement & exercise can make the process a lot more enjoyable
I also walk to the shops as parking in town can be very expensive
It also models a certain behaviour with the kids, they see me walking everywhere and think it’s normal. My kids enjoy walking too, they’ll say: ‘we are walking aren’t we? It’s only round the corner!’
With sports clubs, you often have to arrange around other people, but walking the commute gives me exercise without me having to plan it in.
