“It helps to know how long it can take you to walk somewhere, then you realise it’s not that far”

Geraldine is a Trustee of Chapeltown Nursery and uses walking and catching the bus to travel. She loves bumping into people, enjoying nature and having the time to listen to podcasts. Not only does it improve her mental and physical health, it serves as a nice transition between work and her caring responsibilities.

I just love walking, it’s the freedom of being able to leave the house, often not needing much else but my house-keys, just getting out there into the fresh air and the community around you.

From where I live it’s 40 mins to the Royal Armouries in town or Roundhay Park, I can comfortably walk that distance to get to town, get to the shops, and feel it’s achievable at that amount of time. It helps to know how long it can take you to walk somewhere, then you realise it’s not that far

I feel it makes such a difference to children when they walk locally too”

It’s important for them to have safe travel routes into school, having the chance to interact with the world around them, taking in the architecture, nature and being part of their community – it creates a connection to where they live.
